Churchill Builds

FAQs

Questions, answered.

Getting Started

Which areas do you cover?

Churchill Builds works across Harrogate and North Yorkshire. If you're unsure whether your project falls within our area, get in touch and we'll let you know.

What is the first step in starting a project?

The first step is to complete our enquiry form and tell us a little about your project. We’ll then contact you using your preferred method to discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and the next steps.

If you already have architectural plans, you can send these to us to review before we arrange a site visit. If you’re at an earlier stage and haven’t appointed an architect, that’s absolutely fine — Churchill Builds can help arrange architectural services and a site visit to start developing your ideas.

Once plans are in place, we can assess the proposed work in detail and prepare an estimate for the project.

And if you know you want to transform or extend your home but aren’t completely sure what the finished space should look like, we can help with that too. Our experience across construction, renovation and bespoke interiors means we can suggest practical solutions and ideas to help you make the most of your home.

Do you manage the whole project?

Yes. Churchill Builds can manage your project from the initial concept through to completion, coordinating the different stages and trades required along the way.

If you would prefer to use some of your own tradespeople, that can also be accommodated. We simply ask that they work alongside Churchill Builds and within the overall project management and schedule so that the different elements of the build can be coordinated properly.

How far in advance should we get in touch?

There is no set timeframe, but we recommend contacting us as early as possible, particularly if you have a particular period in mind for your project.

Churchill Builds is often working on existing projects, and we take a committed approach to each build. Once your project begins, our aim is to progress the work continuously through to completion rather than repeatedly leaving your project to move between unrelated jobs.

You’ll receive a project schedule so you understand how the work is expected to progress. We work hard to keep to that schedule, although changes to the scope, additional work requested during the build and circumstances outside our control can affect timings.

Getting in touch early gives us the best opportunity to discuss your plans, complete the necessary preparation and plan your project into our schedule.

Quotes & Costs

How do you prepare an estimate?

Every project is estimated individually around the work actually required.

We consider your plans, the scope and specification of the project, your requirements and the cost of materials at the time the work is being estimated. Our experience and established relationships with suppliers also help us build a detailed picture of what will be required to complete the work.

Our aim is to provide a clear and detailed estimate based on the agreed scope of work, so you can understand what has been included from the outset.

If you decide to add or change work after the original scope has been agreed, those additional works would be considered separately so you can understand how the changes may affect the project and its overall cost.

What information helps you provide an estimate?

Architectural plans are extremely helpful where they are available, particularly for extensions and larger renovation projects.

We’ll also talk through what you want to achieve, how you intend to use the space and any particular ideas or requirements you have. This helps us understand the complete scope of the project rather than simply estimating individual elements in isolation.

If you don’t yet have plans or aren’t sure exactly what you want, you can still contact us. We can arrange a site visit, help develop your ideas and, where required, help arrange architectural services before the project is estimated in detail.

Planning & Building Regulations

Can you help with planning, Building Regulations and structural engineering?

Yes. Churchill Builds can help coordinate these aspects of a project and work alongside architects and structural engineers where required.

Our aim is to make sure the necessary plans, structural information and Building Regulations requirements are properly considered before and throughout the build, so that the work can be completed correctly and the required approvals and certification can be obtained.

During the Build

How will you keep us updated during the work?

Communication continues throughout the project.

Because Churchill Builds remains actively involved on site, you can discuss the work directly with Justin as the project progresses. Justin will also arrange regular site discussions or meetings where appropriate so that you can see how the work is progressing, discuss upcoming stages and raise any questions you may have.

If decisions or changes are needed during the build, we’ll discuss them with you rather than leaving you wondering what is happening.

Can we stay in our home during a renovation?

Sometimes, but it depends on the scale and nature of the work.

We’ll consider the areas being worked on, site safety and whether the remaining parts of your home can still function reasonably while construction is underway. For some projects it may be perfectly practical to remain at home; for more extensive work, there may be stages where this isn’t advisable.

We aim to keep our sites as clean, organised and manageable as possible throughout the build and will discuss what is realistic with you before work begins.

Renovations & Extensions

Can you help with the design of an extension?

Yes. You don’t need to come to Churchill Builds with every detail already decided.

We can help you explore how an extension could work with your existing home, how the new space could be used and the practical considerations involved in bringing your ideas to life.

Where architectural or structural input is required, we can also work with the relevant professionals so that the design can progress from an initial idea towards a buildable project.

Project Completion

What happens when the work is finished?

At the end of the project, we complete the remaining finishing work and make sure the agreed works are complete. Where relevant, the necessary sign-offs and certificates are then provided and the final project payment is completed in accordance with the agreed terms.

Our relationship with you doesn’t simply disappear when the builders leave. If you have a question, need further work or would like to discuss additional improvements afterwards, you can contact Churchill Builds again.

We want our clients to know that we remain only a phone call away.
